Being apart of this elopement was a huge honor for me, as Devi and Dalton are two of my very close friends.
It was in December that we started discussing their plan and coming up with ideas. Devi and Dalton love their river trips, and wanted to incorporate the river into their elopement somehow. We talked about the Colorado River around Moab, we looked at Escalante, but when I pitched the idea of Lake Powell they both fell in love with it.
The day before their elopement the kayak rental company called to inform us they may have to cancel our reservation due to windy weather conditions. We told them that we had two sea kayak guides on our trip, and would like to re arrange the time and push forward anyway.
Devi woke up at the early hours of the morning to do her makeup, and I helped her with her hair. We got on the river nice and early, and double kayaked through a slot canyon until we began our hike. The plan was for them to exchange their vows in the slot canyon, however due to the picking up wind conditions, we chose to kayak out early and head to horseshoe bend to do their vows at sunset.
Everyone we came across was so kind, and so encouraging. My favorite is after their shared their first kiss as a married couple, and older gentleman from the rocks called over and asked “Did you two really just get married?” When they replied yes, he gave them a beautiful blessing with many words on what loving each other forever looks like, and how he saw they would be forever young and in love.
Devi and Dalton, thank you for having me on this incredible adventure and beautifully meaningful day! I adore you both so much, and I am so happy I got to share in this experience with you two. We did this completely as a secret, the day I am posting this blog is the day all our friends and their families will find out this happened!
